About Me
In 1982, Paul graduated from Ohio State University with a BS degree in mechanical engineering, and began his career with Newport News Shipbuilding. During the eight years there, he conducted stress analysis, liaison work, and design modification estimates. In 1990 Paul left the shipyard to work at the Transportation Engineering Agency, also in Newport News, where he worked with CAD to draw floor plans, 3D buildings, rail road and passenger terminals, and other proposed transportation facilities for the Army.
In 1992, he considered changing careers to teach high school physics, math, and drafting. He completed a few classes and worked as a part-time Thomas Nelson instructor teaching AutoCAD. Soon afterwards, he began teaching AutoCAD part-time for the shipyard Night School Program. Paul has taught AutoCAD Introduction and Intermediate classes for the Night School Program for 23 years. He’s also taught at two community colleges nearby, ITT, and a special program at Old Dominion University for laid off workers.
In 2008 Paul began working for the Army Corps of Engineers at Ft Eustis, and then at Arlington National Cemetery. In spring 2015, Paul accepted a similar position with Civil Engineering Squadron, where he oversaw construction at Langley Air Force Base. He reviewed drawings (with paper and with AutoCAD) to assure compliance with specs and to estimate costs. –paul 757-775-7172
At the end of July 2021, Paul retired from his Project Management day job, and is currently pursueing part time AutoCAD teaching jobs as they come up. In his spare time Paul enjoys welding and working with steel.
