About Me:

I have over 10 years of experience using multiple CAD platforms such as Fusion 360, NX 9, Solidworks, Autodesk Inventor, and more. This experience stems from my passion for design and engineering. In high school, I was on a robotics team as a machinist and designer, creating parts using mills, lathes, and other tools while designing actuating arms and other robotic sub-assemblies. I've worked as a fabricator, welder, and machinist, taking on jobs that involved building everything from airplanes and 3D printers to hot dog carts. My work experience has taught me the most important lesson for designers: how things are made. I will not only assist with your introduction to Fusion 360 but also your start as a designer. When using CAD, it's easy to lose sight of the big picture. Many times I've designed parts that were impossible to make, and I’ll help you avoid making the same mistakes.

About FDM 3D Printing

FDM 3D Printing, or Fused Deposition Modeling, is a cutting-edge additive manufacturing technique that constructs three-dimensional objects layer by layer. Utilizing thermoplastic filaments as the primary material, the process involves extruding the heated material through a nozzle and depositing it precisely onto the build platform. As each layer cools and solidifies, the subsequent layer is deposited, gradually forming an intricate and detailed 3D object.
Ideal for rapid prototyping, custom manufacturing, and even small-scale production, FDM 3D Printing offers several advantages, including cost-effectiveness, versatility, and material efficiency. With a wide range of available thermoplastics such as PLA, ABS, and PETG, this technology caters to various industrial applications, from automotive and aerospace to consumer products and medical devices.
Whether you're an engineer, designer, or hobbyist, FDM 3D Printing provides an accessible and reliable solution for transforming digital designs into tangible objects quickly and accurately, thereby accelerating innovation and reducing time-to-market.

FDM 3D Printing FAQs

What are the safety precautions for handling resin in 3D printing?

When handling resin in 3D printing, ensure you wear nitrile gloves and protective eyewear, work in a well-ventilated area, avoid direct skin contact, and immediately clean any spills with isopropyl alcohol. After printing, cure the resin model properly and dispose of waste resin and contaminated materials according to local regulations.

What types of materials can be used with FDM and resin 3D printers?

FDM 3D printers commonly use materials such as PLA, ABS, PETG, TPU, and nylon, while resin 3D printers typically use photopolymer resins, including standard, flexible, tough, and high-detail resins.

What are common troubleshooting steps for failed FDM or resin prints?

For FDM prints: 1. Check the filament for tangles or breaks. 2. Ensure the print bed is level and clean. 3. Verify that the nozzle is not clogged. 4. Adjust the print temperature and speed settings. 5. Confirm filament type matches the print settings. 6. Look for any loose hardware or belts on the printer. 7. Update printer firmware and slicer software. 8. Calibrate the extruder steps per mm. For resin prints: 1. Ensure the build

How do I choose between FDM and resin 3D printing for my project?

Choose FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) for larger, functional parts and projects requiring durability and lower costs; opt for Resin (SLA/DLP) 3D printing for highly detailed, intricate designs, smooth finishes, and projects where precision is critical.

What is the difference in print resolution between FDM and resin 3D printers?

FDM printers typically have lower print resolution, usually around 50–200 microns, while resin printers can achieve much finer details, often providing resolutions as low as 25–50 microns.

How do I post-process and finish a print from an FDM or resin 3D printer?

For FDM prints, start by removing the print from the build plate and carefully pealing off any support structures with pliers. Use sandpaper of varying grits (starting coarse and moving to fine) to smooth the surface, optionally applying a primer and paint for a polished finish. For resin prints, detach the model from the build platform and remove any supports using snippers, then wash the print in isopropyl alcohol (IPA) to remove uncured resin. Cure the model under UV

How do I level the print bed on an FDM 3D printer?

To level the print bed on an FDM 3D printer, follow these steps: 1. Preheat the bed and nozzle to printing temperature to account for thermal expansion. 2. Disable the stepper motors to allow manual movement of the print head. 3. Use a piece of paper or a feeler gauge to check the distance between the nozzle and the bed at each corner. 4. Adjust the bed height at each corner using the leveling knobs until you feel slight resistance while moving the paper or

How long does it take to complete a 3D print with FDM or resin printing?

The time to complete a 3D print with FDM or resin printing can vary widely depending on the size, complexity, layer height, and infill density of the model, but typically ranges from a few hours to several days.

What are the maintenance requirements for FDM and resin 3D printers?

FDM printers require regular calibration, nozzle cleaning, and bed leveling, while resin printers need consistent cleaning of the resin vat and build plate, as well as periodic replacement of the FEP film.

How do I calibrate my 3D printer for optimal performance?

To calibrate your FDM 3D printer, you should: 1. Level the bed using the manual adjustment screws or an automatic bed leveling sensor. 2. Adjust the nozzle height using feeler gauge or paper to ensure it's at an optimal distance from the bed. 3. Calibrate the extruder by ensuring filament flow matches prescribed settings; measure and adjust using the printer's firmware. 4. Perform test prints and fine-tune parameters such as temperature, print speed, and retraction settings to

Tutors & Services Philosophy

Don't Learn Alone

Professionals these days are sitting alone and staring at their computers. They spend years searching online for tools that will increase their workplace efficiency—digging through forums and watching lengthy videos for the right CAD or visualization tip.

Sometimes they just have one small question that would take a person two minutes to answer, but customer support lines are a thing of the past. Big companies will direct you to an FAQ that will hardly begin to answer your question.

Bring Back the Human Connection

We strive to bring human connection back to the work environment. Our tutors work directly with you to solve your problems, similar to the way an apprentice works hand-in-hand with a skilled professional.

Screen-share technologies like Zoom have allowed us to work together in real time. We can see each others' screens and cursors, switch presenters to share information easily, and even turn on webcams for a more human interaction. Learn efficiently across workflows like architectural rendering, interiors, mechanical modeling, and construction documentation.

Tutors, Services, or Both

Sometimes our clients want to learn a program from beginning to end; sometimes they completely hand over the services to us; and other times, they want something in between.

Some clients want to be able to use the program on a basic level and let us do the hard stuff. Others want to co-work with us, supervising our work to ensure their artistic vision is realized. Along the way, they learn the tools—whether that’s SketchUp, Blender, Fusion 360, Revit, or AutoCAD.

By the end of the process, some clients are able to wean themselves completely off of our services and are empowered to do the work themselves. If they get stuck or behind on a deadline, they use us as a lifeline. They can call anytime—even if it’s just a 10-minute question—we are here to help.
