SketchUp’s solid tools may be the most powerful native toolset that you are not using. A SketchUp modeler since 2004, Matt has found his greatest productivity improvements from learning to incorporate solid tools into an architectural design workflow. In this workshop, Matt will lay out the reasoning underpinning his solid modeling workflow, and also teach beginner and intermediate workflows. You can expect to learn how to use the solid tools to create complexity from basic forms, and also how to speed up general model building. Finally, Matt will also examine how modeling with solids at the outset can increase the speed of making changes as projects move forward into design development.
Building Custom Dynamic Components
Have you ever wondered how SketchUp’s dynamic components work? More important, why you would want to use them in your design process? In his classes, Matt, an eighteen-year SketchUp modeler, will demonstrate the practical advantages created in the speed of design and revision processes through the use of dynamic components sets. Then, in a hands-on approach, he will walk attendees through building a useful dynamic component, demystifying how to put it all together. For this session, a solid foundation in SketchUp is beneficial, and a working knowledge of spreadsheets is also a big plus.
I earned a B.S. in Business Management and a M.Arch. from the University of Florida. I have eighteen years of experience with a South Florida architecture firm and sixteen years practice with SketchUp. I developed and now mentor a 3D modeling and design team. The team creates nearly 150 3D models a year, with SketchUp being the core program for the day-to-day workflows to efficiently design high-end luxury homes.
For 30 years, together with my partners I have designed work totaling over $12.5 billion located throughout the US, Central America, Caribbean, and Middle East.
We have completed private residences for numerous celebrities, athletes, and CEOs throughout the region. We work discreetly with clients in communities which require a great deal of architectural correctness and an uncompromising professional reputation. World-class interior designers, as part of the team, are able to constantly achieve success due to our ability to coordinate and execute from initial design through construction.
Our partners’ direct involvement throughout the design process, along with select staff specifically trained in estate home architectural and detail, is critical to achieving the level of design and quality which estate homes require. Each residence is a unique, one-of-a-kind legacy properly providing a timeless safe investment of your time and money.
Our designs have merited over 350 national and regional design awards, and are recognized in numerous published works.
I am specifically interested in sharing my workflow and process with other architects to help use Sketchup and Layout in the most efficient way possible.
